Collision & Pedestrian Safety

Monitor ground handling blind spots around aircraft
in 3D to preemptively block airside collision risk.
Target Customers

• Airport corporations and airport operators

• Ground handlers

• Airport safety and airside management departments

• Aircraft ground support equipment (GSE) operators

Challenges

• Collision and contact risk persists on the airside, where aircraft, ground handling vehicles, and workers are concentrated

• Large equipment and aircraft fuselages block views, creating blind spots where workers and vehicles miss each other

• Ground handling proceeds under time pressure, so a momentary lapse in attention leads directly to an accident

Existing Limitations

• Reliance on marshalling and signaling personnel makes it difficult to continuously control simultaneous situations at multiple points

• CCTV makes accurate distance judgment difficult because of occlusion by large equipment and nighttime and weather effects

• Proximity sensors cannot distinguish object type and direction of movement, causing frequent false alarms

Solution Approach

• Detect and track vehicles, workers, and equipment around the aircraft in 3D with LiDAR

• Define aircraft docking areas and stand hazard radii as virtual zones

• Assess collision risk based on distance and trajectory and issue staged advance warnings

• Integrate with existing safety systems such as warning lights, control systems, and GSE terminals

• Monitor continuously with 3D de-identified processing and no privacy burden

Expected Benefits

• Preemptively block vehicle–worker collision risk in ground handling areas

• Strengthen awareness of blind spots for handling staff and controllers

• Maintain the same monitoring performance at night and in bad weather

• Reduce the risk of aircraft damage and flight delays caused by contact accidents
