📰 Waymo Recalls Approximately 3,800 Robotaxis Due to Software Fault

Waymo has issued a recall for approximately 3,800 robotaxis due to a defect in its autonomous driving software. The issue is reportedly a software bug that could cause vehicles to move in unintended directions or exhibit abnormal braking behavior under specific circumstances. The recall has been officially filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Waymo stated that it has already addressed the issue through a remote Over-the-Air (OTA) software update. While no injuries have been reported, this incident is expected to reignite discussions among regulators regarding the strengthening of safety standards for autonomous vehicles.

📰 Smart Farming Accelerated by Expansion of "Autonomous Driving Assist Devices"

Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province, is launching a pilot project in 2026 to distribute "Autonomous Driving Assist Devices for Precision Rice Farming" to address an aging workforce and rural labor shortages. These detachable devices can be installed on existing transplanters and tractors, enabling autonomous operation through precision straight-line driving and auto-steering. Results from participating farmers show a 60% reduction in work fatigue and a 30% decrease in operating time. The Yeoju Agricultural Technology Center expects this project to not only save labor but also enhance the quality and productivity of Yeoju rice.

📰 California Approves Nuro for Driverless Robotaxi Pilot Testing

Autonomous delivery startup Nuro has secured a "drivered" pilot permit from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), allowing the company to test passenger service on public roads with a safety driver present. Combined with the "driverless" testing permit obtained from the California DMV last April, Nuro now holds both key components for a commercial launch in the state: driverless testing and passenger pilot operations. However, neither permit allows for paid fare collection, and the CPUC permit does not yet permit driverless passenger transport. Nuro is currently preparing to launch a robotaxi program in partnership with Uber and Lucid, making it one of only five companies to hold both California permits simultaneously.
