Vueron Technology teams up with KT for '3D LiDAR' Targeting the Road Safety B2G Market

Vueron Technology, a company specializing in LiDAR cognitive solutions, announced on the 19th that it has signed a "MOU" with KT for the development and commercialization of LiDAR-based intelligent road management solutions.

The two companies will automatically detect potholes during daily driving by installing Vueron's independent road recognition solution "Copilot" in public transportation that operates in local governments at all times, such as route buses, road cleaning cars, and snow removal cars.

Since LiDAR technology directly measures the distance to the road surface through laser pulses, it minimizes false positives caused by illuminance changes, shadows, and road stains, which are vulnerabilities of 2D optical cameras. Even at night or in low light environments, it is possible to accurately measure not only the presence or absence of potholes, but also the depth and area, so the priority of road repair can be derived scientifically. Data collected in the field are combined with KT's ICT pipeline. KT combines "RTX Fast"-based precision positioning technology to help identify potholes in units of lanes on the road more accurately than general GPS. In addition, it will establish a system to process and control data in real time by linking LTE network and cloud service 'Cloudflex'.

Local governments are expected to maximize the administrative efficiency of road management by linking public vehicles that tour the jurisdiction every day without introducing additional expensive dedicated inspection vehicles. Based on KT's communication technology, we will work together to discover business opportunities and create new values by collaborating in safety management fields such as pothole detection and standard packaging, said KT's director of delivery ceremony.

Vueron Technology CEO Kim Jae-kwang said, "This cooperation is significant in that Vueron's LiDAR recognition technology, which has been accumulated in the field of autonomous driving, is expanded to the area of public road safety management and is combined with KT's precision positioning and communication infrastructure to explore new market opportunities."
